JENNIE MARTIN TOMLIN ART CLASS SCHEDULE BEGINNING IN SEPTEMBER 2011

REGULAR CLASSES  MEET ON THE FOLLOWING DAYS:
             MONDAY MORNING - 9:30 - 12 NOON
             TUESDAY EVENING - 5 TO 7:30 PM
WEDNESDAY MORNING (NEWLY ADDED)  9:30 - 12 NOON

WORKSHOPS:  I plan workshops by request .   Upcomimg workshops may include
Watercolor - POURING PAINT,  PASTEL TECHNIQUES ,  COLOR MY WORLD:  in depth  color course and DESIGN AND COMPOSITION;  in depth study of the principles and elements of design.

The above classes are all on-going classes  attended by students of all skill levels. The medium  used is mostly watercolors, however there are also some mixed media techniques and drawing techniques included in the classes from time to time.  The classes are designed to help the students as individuals at their particular skill level. I believe that students learn more quickly if they are  working with a subject matter that they  like and enjoy so that is always a priority but I also do demos  with specific subject matter from time to time  so students can see how a technique is applied to a specific subject.  We work from set ups and photographs, however students are welcomed and encouraged to work outside (close and convenient) if they prefer.    For more information on classroom location, parking etc.  please email me at jennie .tomlin@gmail.com.

Classes are $20.00 per weekly session. Payable on a monthly basis.  If you know in advance you will be missing a class it is not necessary to pay for that class.  If you otherwise miss a class, it can be made up  at it’s sister class  (Mon  a m, Tues. p m  and Wed a m  classes are the same except for time and day.

There are no classes on 5th  Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. Because of other commitment there is never a class on the last Wednesday of a month - whether it is the 4th or 5th Wednesday.

INFORMATION FOR NEW STUDENTS

Classes are on going classes and are offered every month.  I have a standing commitment elsewhere for the last Wednesday of each month.  Sometimes that is the 4th Wed as in Sept. and sometimes there are 5 Wed in a month so those months would have 4 classes.    The participants change from time to time, but mostly, folks will sign up repeatedly on a monthly basis.  Classes are $20.00 per class, payable on a monthly basis on the first class of the month.     If you know in advance that you will not be attending a specific class,  you will not pay for that class.  If something comes up during the month and you need to miss a class you have paid for,  you will have the opportunity to make that class up on a Monday morning  class 9:30 - 12:00 or Tuesday evening 5 - 7:30  pm.

Regarding supplies:  You will need watercolor PAINTS:   a warm and cool version of each of the three primary colors - red, yellow and blue = 6 colors plus burnt sienna and paynes gray.   For yellows I suggest aureolin and gamboge,   reds:  vermillion and permanent rose,  and blues:  cobalt and ultramarine blue.  There are many other colors that are helpful to have and you will want to add them but for now you will be able to mix almost any color with the 8 colors I have listed.
BRUSHES:  to start you will need watercolor brushes   - a mixture of sable and synthetic is best -  a 1/2 inch flat, a # 4 rigger, a # 6 round and a # 10 round.  Be sure they are for watercolor.  If you buy them at Cheap Joes  on Monroe Road in Charlotte  (or at www.cheapjoesartstuff.com.)the sales clerk will help you at the charlotte store.  Show him this list and ask for their student discount because you are my student.  When I see you, ask me for a discount card.   Again, there are other brushes that are helpful but these will do fine for now and you will want to add later.
PALETTE:  you will need a covered palette.  I like my students to use  the Quiller round palette, travel version is smaller but quite adequate and easier to handle.  Regular size one is fine.    PAPER:  Paper is the most important supply of all items and from time to time I will have special papers available to purchase for special techniques, but mostly, fabriano artistico or arches , both cold press 140 pound  paper work well.  The best is sold in sheets 22 x 30 inches and I have a cutter I can cut paper since we will be working smaller than that.   Arches also makes  22140# cp in pads - 9 x 12 is a good size.  I do have fabriano paper here for sale for students and can cut to size.  We often will be working on 1/8 sheet pieces which is 7 x 10 inches.  If you want to wait and get paper from me that will be fine.  I don't make a profit on it but I do have to charge tax and my shipping costs.
ADDITIONAL SUPPLIES;   kleenex, paper towels, sketch book (spiral bound)  9 x 12 or smaller, note book for notes unless you like to take notes along with your sketches in sketch book, masking tape ruler, pencils, kneaded (gray soft) eraser, gum eraser (white)     Bring photos of things you are intersted in working with.

I like to know by the last class of each month if you will be signing up for the following month.
